WHAT IS PROGRESSIVE INSURANCE STANCE ON NEW BIKES?

In a recent study, Progressive Insurance found that bikers who buy new motorcycles are nearly 70 percent more likely to crash than riders who keep the same bike.
"Most people already know that riding can be especially dangerous for new bikers," said Rick Stern, a Progressive motorcycle product manager who's also a rider. "But our data shows that the less familiar you are with your bike, the more likely you are to be involved in a collision regardless of your experience."[...]

Completing an auto insurance quotecomparison is a smart way of obtaining competitive rates. Doing so usually
involves having to contact multiple companies individually to request
quotes which can be quite a time consuming process and can quickly become
frustrating.
In today's world of technology, auto insurance has combined nicely with
the internet allowing consumers to compare rates online, complete extensive
research and even purchase a policy online. What took hours a few years
ago, now only takes minutes thanks to online technology. Consumers can log
into websites like http://www.OnlineAutoInsurance.com to obtain instant
online auto insurance quotes from a variety of carriers such as

WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT PROGRESSIVE INSURANCE PATENTED CLAIMS PROCESSING?
2/22/2008 06:04:00 PM | auto insurance, claims, patent, Progressive Insurance | 0 comments »PROGRESSIVE VS. GEICO CAR INSURANCE
The claims-processing method practiced in service centers opened by The Progressive Group of Insurance Cos. in 54 markets across the country, including Amherst, now has patent protection.
The service centers allow drivers to receive a "concierge" type of claims service in which Progressive takes responsibility for the vehicle claims and repair process following a crash.
Using the Progressive method of claims processing, the driver reports the claim, drops off the car and drives away in a rental car. Progressive then writes an estimate for the damage and contacts a repair facility to pick up the car and fix the damages. Once the car is repaired, it is returned to the center, the repairs are inspected and the customer is notified. When the customer returns, he or she picks up the car and drives away knowing that the repairs are guaranteed by Progressive and the shop.
The insurer received a patent for this process of dealing with vehicle damage claims at the end of January. The process also was recognized for fast claims resolution by J.D. Power and Associates 2007 Insurance Claims Study. [...]
PREPARING TO PAY HIGHER PRICES FOR INSURANCE?
2/17/2008 06:23:00 PM | Allstate, insurance, premiums, Progressive Insurance, State Farm | 0 comments »Claims for bodily injuries climbed 6.6 percent in the third quarter, said PCI, which does not have fourth-quarter data. That was driven by more expensive hospital visits, which rose 6.7 percent in 2007, according to the Department of Labor.
Automobile owners, take note: You may soon pay more to insure your car, truck or SUV.State Farm and Progressive are leading the push by auto insurers to raise premiums in at least 20 states as the $160 billion industry moves to end two years of price reductions.
So far, the price increases don’t appear to have touched drivers in Kansas and Missouri.
Insurers say they need higher prices to counter climbing repair and medical costs. Allstate, ranked second by premiums, said collision bills rose 2.2 percent in the fourth quarter from a year earlier and payouts for injuries gained 9.3 percent. Safeco Corp., which gets almost half its total premiums from drivers, reported a $19 million loss on auto underwriting.
Rising prices for new vehicles and expenses for labor and replacement parts contributed to a 45 percent increase in car repair costs during the past decade, according to information compiled by the Highway Loss Data Institute in Arlington, Va.
Collision costs rose 2.4 percent in the third quarter from a year earlier, according to data compiled by the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America. The cost of auto-body work was up 3.3 percent in 2007, the U.S. Department of Labor reported. [...]
PROGRESSIVE INSURANCE FINDS THAT FUEL COST ARE MOST CONCERNING EXPENSE
2/07/2008 04:00:00 PM | fuel economy, Progressive Insurance, rising car insurance cost | 0 comments »Bottom line: Regardless of what kind and how many trucks you own or operate, regularly reviewing business expenses like insurance costs can save you money and keep your business moving forward.
Fuel "drives" the trucking industry, and truckers are feeling the pinch at the pump now more than ever. In fact, diesel fuel costs have increased nearly 85 cents a gallon in the past year.A recent survey by commercial auto insurer Progressive found that 69 percent of truckers say fuel costs are their most concerning business expense.
To offset these costs, truckers have tried:
-- Downsizing staff (16 percent)
-- Lengthening their workdays (12 percent)
-- Taking fewer vacation days (8 percent)
But while many truckers are taking serious steps to offset costs, a surprising 41 percent say they've done nothing.
"When times are tough, simple things like keeping up with regular vehicle maintenance and shopping around for insurance can save truckers hundreds of dollars," says Ken Bowman, with Progressive's commercial lines group. [...]
WHAT INFORMATION DOES INSURANCE COMPANIES USE TO CALCULATE RATES?

HOMEOWNER STATUS AND OTHER FINANCIAL INFO
Senate Majority Leader Fred Berry, D-Peabody, yesterday blasted the governor's plans for deregulating the way automobile insurance rates are set.
The administration's plan came under scrutiny yesterday when consumer groups and lawmakers filed legislation requiring insurers to set rates based only on a person's driving record and not financial or homeowner status.
Berry said Insurance Commissioner Nonnie S. Burnes, a judge before she was appointed commissioner earlier this year, was "totally off track" for recently approving rules that forbade the use of credit scoring when setting rates but did not prohibit those other factors.
"I think the judge has been misled," Berry said. "I'm concerned. There's evidence that Geico and Progressive and other insurers use these variables that should not be used when calculating insurance rates."
He also took aim at the administration, pointing out that, in 1977, the Dukakis administration approved a deregulation plan that caused urban drivers' rates to soar. Berry represents the cities of Peabody and Salem.[...]

By MICHELE MORGAN BOLTON.
On trial are Joseph Houghtaling, 36; his brother, Frank, 32; their wives, Renee and Rhonda Houghtaling, who are 34-year-old twins; family matriarch, Donna Houghtaling, 58; and her daughter, Brenda Warner, 38.
Prosecutor Bradley Sherman is leading the jury, crash by crash, through what he has called a concerted effort by the defendants to rip off the system.
Earlier Monday, a Progressive Insurance adjuster testified that he alerted the company's special investigation unit on March 16, 1997, about another crash.
The adjuster, Kirk Field, said that after Frank Houghtaling reported he'd crashed his car into his father's Poplar Street garage in Colonie, Houghtaling insisted that the accident wrecked the garage and everything in it, including his brother Joe's motorcycle. But what caught his eye, Field recalled, was that Frank Houghtaling had purchased full auto coverage on a 12-year-old, 100,000-mile car just four days before the alleged crash.
Progressive eventually paid Joe Houghtaling $5,000 for damage to his bike; $5,000 to Alfred Houghtaling for the property damage; $886.05 to Frank Houghtaling for damage to his old car; and $200 for a rental car, he said.

Progressive Insurance Lawsuit: “Progressive engaged in a massive scheme..."
3/14/2007 01:01:00 AM | lawsuit, Progressive Insurance | 0 comments »By James E. Guyette.
Amid widespread cheers from his industry colleagues, a New York collision repairer has filed a lawsuit against Progressive Insurance charging that the carrier has engaged in rampant steering in violation of existing Empire State statutes.
“The powers that be in the government aren’t doing anything about it, so my only recourse is through the courts,” says Greg Coccaro Sr., president of North State Custom of Bedford Hills, N.Y.
Coccaro, having hired a lawyer working on a contingency basis, is pursuing the lawsuit on his own volition. “This stems from ‘enough is enough,’” he maintains. “It’s been a pattern of abuses back to as far as I can remember. They’re just so blatant and arrogant about it, I thought I had to do something.”
The action was recently filed in Westchester County Supreme Court. A trial date has not been set.
When approached by ABRN about the lawsuit Progressive declined comment, issuing a statement that “it is our practice to not comment on pending litigation.”
The suit alleges that over the past several years, “Progressive engaged in a massive scheme whereby it steers its insureds to its DRP program shops by making claims that the independent shops might not be guaranteed, or fully covered, or overpriced, or that the work will be unduly delayed. It has implemented this massive scheme by having its servants, employees, adjusters and/or appraisers make misleading and knowingly false and/or exaggerated statements concerning North State, and other independent auto body shops, to its insureds/claimants, in an effort to coerce the insured/claimant to have their car repaired at Progressive’s DRP shop,” Coccaro contends.
“In the case of North State, defendants have habitually coerced its insureds/claimants to have their vehicle removed from North State and brought to a DRP upon defendants’ representations to their insureds/claimants that North State is not a reputable body shop.”
Containing eight separate “causes of action,” the suit further charges that Progressive “has violated through its unfair claims practices” New York State regulation section 2610 of the insurance law that states: “An insurance company cannot require that repairs be made to a motor vehicle in a particular place or repair shop. You have the right to have your vehicle repaired in the shop of your choice.” LINK.

Progressive Insurance vs GEICO Car Insurance.

Progressive Insurance vs GEICO Car Insurance which one is better....
Progressive wins unless your driving and credit record are clean.
Bottom Line
[Progressive is] the best car insurance company for almost anyone. The only exception would be someone with both a perfect driving and credit record, they will probably save more with GEICO.
....For many years, I had GEICO insurance. Because I had a clean record, I saved far more with them than any other insurance company. Even when I finally had one accident, their rates were still very good. But when I got married a few years ago, they dropped me because of my wife's record.
Though she wasn't quite considered "assigned risk", I had a difficult time finding an auto insurance company that would write a reasonably priced policy. With one exception, that being Progressive. In fact, despite everything, they were only about 10% more than my old GEICO rate would've been for both cars if her record were similar to mine...LINK.
